• About Us | Cave Veterinary Specialists

Welcome to Cave Veterinary Specialists, where our top priority is to provide outstanding specialist care for your sick or injured pet.

We have a team of highly-experienced veterinary clinicians, or ‘specialists’, working with state-of-the-art equipment and technology, which enables us to treat the most complex and challenging cases. So, you can rest assured your pet will be in the best possible place, receiving first-class care.

We also realise it’s a very stressful time for you if your pet is admitted and we pride ourselves on ensuring you’re cared for as well. That’s why our motto is Clinical Excellence, Personal Care.

It’s vital we deliver both - using all our skills to look after your pet, and to look after you!

Communication is essential and we’ll keep you fully informed of everything we do throughout the whole time your animal is with us.

Whatever the nature of the problem, we’ll answer any queries you may have, giving you the peace of mind that your pet is receiving the best consultation and treatment available.

Cave about us montage

What is a referral centre?

An important part of helping to put you at ease is by explaining who we are and how we work in a clear, jargon-free way.

Cave Veterinary Specialists is a hospital for small animals, which is able to treat more serious cases of illness and injury. We’re also described as a referral centre, which means that serious cases are sent (referred) to us by your local vets.

It’s very similar to the way the National Health Service (NHS) operates. If you have a problem, you visit your local GP surgery and if they can deal with the issue, you don’t need to be sent anywhere else for your treatment.

However, if your condition is more serious and requires more specialist care, then your GP will send you to see a consultant or specialist in a particular field of medicine –a knee, back or heart specialist, for instance.

These are acknowledged experts in their field capable of using their skills, knowledge and hi-tech equipment to deliver a detailed diagnosis of your problem and then offer the best course of treatment, including admission to hospital and surgery if necessary.

It’s exactly the same in our profession. Primary care vets are just like GPs and, like your local doctor, can deal with a whole variety of everyday problems.

However, in more serious cases they will send your pet to us for specialist care and/or admission to our state-of-the-art hospital.

Just like NHS consultants, our specialists have spent years studying to be experts in a particular field of medicine, the only difference is that it’s veterinary medicine.

What do we offer?

Here at Cave, we have the very latest equipment and technology to help ensure the highest standard of care, whatever their problem may be.

And, just like in the NHS, there’s a dedicated team of caring and compassionate clinicians and nurses working alongside our specialists to deliver the very best all-round treatment and aftercare for your pet.
