What is a Pet Cardiologist?

Cardiology looks at the heart and circulatory systems, specifically ensuring that your pet has no serious medical heart or circulatory conditions. Should a condition be found, cardiology treatment and management is available with our highly skilled cardiology clinicians and veterinary nurses.

At Cave Veterinary Specialists, the cardiology services include cardiac investigations. These look at heart murmurs, collapse/exercise intolerance and arrhythmia assessment or management. There is also investigation and management available for pericardial and pleural effusions.

Procedures Performed by a Cardiologist

All procedures that fall under cardiac investigations at Cave Vets are performed using the latest technology: Cardiac ultrasound with colour doppler, tissue doppler imaging, digital ECG and Holter motions.

During initial consultation, and examination of your pet, these and any further tests are discussed in detail with the veterinary nurse or clinician and pet owner.

Cave Vets, along with the Heart Vets team also offer a range of cardiac interventional surgeries (keyhole surgeries). If these are required, the team work closely with specialist anaesthetists and experienced surgical team members to deliver the best pet care.

• Catheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus
• Pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty for management of severe pulmonic stenosis
• Permanent pacemaker implantation

All of these surgeries can be discussed in detail before taking place. They are performed using the highest quality, state-of-the-art imagery equipment to ensure the highest care for your pet whilst under.
