A young dog who was hit by a van and suffered severe pelvic injuries is back on her feet thanks to our skilled vets and her dedicated owners.
Two-year-old Labrador Ruby needed three operations in one go to repair the damage and get her on the road to recovery.
Ruby’s owner, Paul Burnell from Devon, said: “We were shocked when we learnt the extent of Ruby’s injuries.
“We were also very concerned as Ruby was having three operations in one go, so it was a very big surgical procedure.”
Head of Surgery David Haine was in charge of Ruby’s complex operation. He said: “Ruby was referred to Cave after being involved in a road traffic accident. We urgently performed a CT scan which confirmed she had suffered multiple pelvic fractures and an abdomen wall rupture meaning her bladder had been displaced.
“We carried out emergency surgery, which included repairing the herniated bladder and placing it back into the abdomen, while complex repairs were made to her pelvis and hip.
“Following the surgery, Ruby required a lot of nursing care and support before being allowed home to her loving owners.”
Ruby’s grateful owner, Paul, added: “Ruby’s care at Cave was five-star and everything was explained clearly in a way we could understand.
“Now she’s had the operation, she’s becoming more mobile and we are strictly following David’s advice to aid her recovery.
“She’s a very happy dog and doesn’t seem to be in any pain whatsoever. My thanks go to David and all the team at Cave.”
