Teamed trained in ultrasound guided local anaesthetic techniques

Throughout 2023 our anaesthesia team undertook further training in ultrasound guided local anaesthetic techniques. Our team of three veterinary anaesthetists attended a three-day course in Zurich lead by world renowned experts in the field.

Cave Veterinary Specialists in Bristol - anaesthesia

Following a series of online lectures anaesthesia RVNs, Sarah Appleton, Nicola Tooth and Hannah Winter attended a practical CPD course at the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) where they learnt how to implement local anaesthesia techniques in veterinary practice.

The unified approach of the anaesthesia vets and nurses advancing their skills at the same time has allowed them to support each other at putting their new skills into use in the hospital. This enhances our ability to provide the highest quality of care and achieve clinical excellence for patients undergoing surgical procedures. In human healthcare the use of these techniques has been shown to reduce post-operative nausea and vomiting and can help contribute to shorter hospital stays post-operatively.
